Amrit Stein received early training in ballet and modern dance in Hanover/Germany.
Later she became fascinated by the intricate rhythmical patterns of Kathak, which
mirror a powerful creative source that deeply connects to our own intuitive sense of timing.
Originally having been trained in ballet, in which the danseuse tries to overcome
gravity with high leaps and tiptoe techniques, Amrit was attracted by the more
earth-bound quality of Indian Dance. To her, the Indian Dance Tradition
offers a harmonious blend between the solid earth in interplay with lucid
gestures and subtle facial expressions which cover all shades of emotions.
Amrit Stein received basic Kathak training from Shrimati Rohini Bhate in Pune.
There, she also became a disciple of the famous exponent of Hatha-Yoga, Shri B.K.S.Iyengar.
In 1993 she met Shrimati Kumudini Lakhia and, being inspired by the innovative technique
and new approach in choreography, continued her Kathak training at Kadamb in Ahmedabad.
In 2005 and 2006 she received extensive Kathak training from Dr.Malabika Mitra in Kolkata.
